Ingredients

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp fennel
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 12 oz (354 ml) tomato paste
  • 28 oz (828 ml) canned stewed tomatoes
  • 10 + lasagna noodles

Cheese layer

  • 24 oz (700 g) cottage cheese or ricotta
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp parsley
  • 1 can of sliced black olives
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, grated (or more)

Instructions

  1. Sauté ground beef, onion & garlic together.
  2. Simmer all meat sauce ingredients (except noodles) together, at least 20 minutes.
  3. Mix cheese layer ingredients together.
  4. In 9×13 pan: spread a thin layer of meat sauce on bottom of pan.
  5. Layer: Lasagna noodles, meat, egg/cheese & mozzarella 3x
  6. Cover tightly with foil (may need to spray foil so cheese doesn’t stick to it). Bake at 375° F / 190° C for 30 minutes.
  7. Uncover. Bake another 30 minutes.
  8. Let rest at least 10 minutes before cutting into.
