Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 tsp yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast & water together.
  2. Combine milk, sugar, salt & butter. Let cool (about 30 mins).
  3. Add yeast, beaten egg & 2 c. flour. Beat really well w/mixer til smooth.
  4. Gradually add remaining flour (1 1/2c.) by hand until it makes a soft dough.
  5. Cover, let raise about 1-1 1/2 hours.
  6. Punch down. Refrigerate (it will raise again) a few hours or overnight.
  7. Divide into 2 pieces, equal size, roll into 2, 12″ circles.
  8. Cut into 12 wedges. (optional: spread with softened butter)
  9. Roll from large side into center – into crescent shape.
  10. Put on greased cookie sheets
  11. Let raise (30 mins to 1 hr).
  12. Bake at 400° F / 204° C 10-12 minutes.
  13. Brush with butter with 5 minutes left to keep soft.
  14. Makes 2 dozen.
